As the snow begins its gradual thaw, we eagerly anticipate the peak of sugaring season here in Woodstock. The timeless tradition of maple sugaring is celebrated across the state. From Maple Open House Weekends to live music, art exhibitions, and of course, spring skiing, there is no shortage of fun to be had in Woodstock this month.

The Vermont Spring Maple Open House Weekend is a highlight in March. It's a festive time to honor and celebrate this year's harvest of maple syrup, and introduce visitors to the making of Vermont's "liquid gold." Here are some of the Maple Open House Weekends you'll find in Woodsotck this month. 

Sugarbush Farm
This fourth generation family farm is famous for its waxed cheeses and pure Vermont maple syrup. Visit the 500 acre farm located on a scenic road open daily, 9-5. Visit the sugarhouse, where they will be making maple syrup and take a tour through the Maple Walk to view a portion of the tubing system that collects the sap. Sugarbush Farm is located at 591 Sugarbush Farm Rd, Woodstock, VT.
 
Bourdon Maple Farm

Join Bourdon Maple Farm at the sugarhouse for maple tours, tastings, boiling demonstrations, waffles, ice cream, and more. Cozy up around the campfire with friends or explore the Maple Trail. Experience Vermont life at its finest. Open house dates: March 22- 23, 2025. Located at 112 Bourdon Rd, Woodstock, VT. 

Elm Grove Farm

Tradition is at the heart of Elm Grove Farm. They continue to collect sap in traditional Vermont sap buckets, working with family and friends to boil the sap on their local farm. This year they've built a traditional boiling cauldron to create pure maple sugar like they used to hundreds of years ago. Open house dates: March 22-23, 10am-4pm. Located at 3655 Cloudland Rd., Pomfret, VT

Stop by and see how maple syrup is made old-fashioned way. Enjoy free sugarhouse tours and fresh, warm sugarhouse shots of maple syrup. Silver Lake Syrups will have maple syrup, Vermont maple creemees, sugarhouse waffles, maple pecan pies, vinaigrette, and more available for purchase. Maple Open House dates: March 22 -23, 2025 from 12-6pm AND March 29-30, 2025 from 12-6pm. Located at 5613 Stage Road

March typically offers the final flurries for the year, sometimes even a spring snowstorm (or two). Spend a day enjoying the sun and higher temps with a family-friendly day on the slopes at Saskadena Six Ski Area

The trails around Woodstock VT also offer pristine conditions for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, providing a serene way to explore the natural beauty of our landscape. 

Not far from Woodstock, Killington Mountain has hundreds of trails and over 70 acres of open terrain. Spring skiing typically lasts into May at Killington.

Come enjoy a performance by Frigg, the Nordic folk sensation, as part of the Vermont After Hours Series presented by Pentangle Arts on March 6 at 7:30pm. Tickets available here. 

Rock out to reggae and blues with the Organically Good Trio at The Little Theater on March 28, 7-10pm. 

Owl Prowl At Vins

Celebrate winter in Vermont and explore the natural world as you hike the beautiful trails at the VINS Nature Center and prowl for owls. Reservations are required. Event date: Friday March 14, 5:30-7pm.

Local Art Exhibitions

Just a few minutes from downtown Woodstock, Artistree will hold their annual MUD season exhibit with an opening reception on Friday, March 14, from 5:30-7:30pm. Each year they exhibit work from 60+ local artists inspired by the melting snow, the running sap, the returning birds, the awakening bears, the longer days, the rutted roads, and the special light of Mud Season. Exhibit dates: March 14-April 19, 2025.

Enjoy a quieter pace in Woodstock this month and enjoy all that our charming village has to offer. Our boutiques and galleries display the work of local artisans, offering unique treasures and art inspired by the season. Take a stroll downtown and shop in some of our locally owned boutiques and shops, with Vermont made goods and gifts. 

Taste local flavors at the cafés, cocktail bars, and restaurants throughout town. Woodstock has an incredible variety of farm-to-table dining to enjoy.
